Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
